We have always been based in Friars Street, Sudbury and have kept to traditional values of service, trust, integrity, reliability and expertise in all the areas the firm covers.
Our aim is to be happy in our work of providing a friendly, competent, responsive, efficient, reliable and financially sound legal service to our existing and new clients predominantly within a 15-25 mile radius of Sudbury.
Currently employing 10 fee earning lawyers (7 of whom are qualified solicitors) with two further currently completing their training and numerous support staff we are well placed to meet the needs of our clients.
Late 1800’s
Thomas Bates assumed control of another long standing practice that had been in operation since the mid 1800’s
1906
Charles Wells formed a partnership with Thomas Bates creating Bates & Wells Solicitors
1917
Thomas Braithwaite joined the partnership creating Bates Wells & Braithwaite
1962
Cecil Wells, nephew of Charles Wells opened an office in Ipswich
1970
Andrew Phillips (who later became Lord Phillips of Sudbury), son of the then Partner Allan Phillips opened an office in London
2004
The three offices split creating three separate, independently run “sister” practices all called Bates Wells & Braithwaite each with their own areas of specialism and unique client base
2017
Bates Wells & Braithwaite celebrated it’s 100th year of trading under the full name
